The “You Are the Star” mural in Los Angeles is a street mural painted on the southeast wall of the Playmates of Hollywood building located at 6438 Hollywood Boulevard. The mural was created in 1983 by street artist Thomas Suriya.
The mural features dozens of film legends, such as Errol Flynn as Robin Hood, Superman, Woody Allen, Richard Pryor, Woody Woodpecker, Laurel and Hardy, Judy Garland, and Mickey Rooney, sitting in a darkened movie theater and looking out at the viewer.
The Global Angel Wings Project, of which the “You Are the Star” mural is a part, seeks to encourage kindness and empathy through public art. Miller’s goal with the project is to create interactive street art that inspires people to engage with each other positively, to spread kindness and understanding, and to share their experiences through social media.
